The region is heavily populated by the Nubri and Chumba ethnic groups, whose lifestyle, language, and attire are deeply intertwined with Tibetan traditions. Trekkers will encounter ancient Buddhist monasteries, mani walls, and secluded prayer-flag-lined villages that offer an untouched look into authentic mountain hospitality.
Climate Conditions
The climate progresses from a subtropical river basin along the Budhi Gandaki River up to freezing alpine zones. Temperatures vary significantly between lush, humid lower elevations and the raw, biting arctic atmosphere encountered while crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,106 meters.
Conservation Rules
Administered by the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), strict rules protect the region's fragile biodiversity. Independent trekking is legally prohibited; you must hire a licensed guide, use a registered agency, and secure mandatory MCAP, ACAP, and Restricted Area Permits (RAP).
